Please read the article, "Process Writing and the Secondary School Reality: A Compromise" (Pages 74-81 of your Bulk Pack Materials). Barbara Carney, author of the article, describes how she makes her students write five total drafts of their papers. This week, you are writing the first and second drafts of your personal statement (essay for college). Mr. Schuman will make you write five total drafts of your personal statement.
DISCUSSION QUESTION SIX:
1. Should Mr. Schuman make students write five total drafts of their personal statement or is the drafting process utter insanity and a waste of time?
2. Which draft is the most important one: D1, D2, D3, D4, or D5?Please base your comments and responses off the ideas that Barbara Carney presents in her article.

Mr.Schuman should make students follow Barbara Carney's five draft essay process. Her system allows students to view their essays through a different lens broadening their perspective, then just the written revising his/her paper. This will give the student a better chance at elaborating on his/her thoughts to fully implement the message they want into their essay. This well achieve maximum clarity while making a strong arguement.
D5 is the most important draft in Barbara Carney's five draft essay process. D5 is the final product of her process . Therefore, it would make no sence to favor any other step because they all are put in place to reach D5. D5 is comprised of self, peer, teacher, computer, and world review. All of these steps together, make a solid well put together essay.
Even though the drafting process was a success to me, i still think it's a waste of time. Students are proficient in "bullshitting," and excuse my language but it's the truth. When students see an opportunity like this, they will think of a way to beat the system. Students may only write one draft, and then simply write D2,D3,D3,D4, and then D5. Since teachers won't look at it strictly, it's a easy leeway to not do the work. This is why i think the process is a total waste of time, allow me to introduce a new idea. What about if we only do two things; draft and final draft. We are used to writing like this since freshmen year. I think with this new plan students will actually work hard in order to produce their work. Regarding which is the one that's the most important, i believe it's D5. Like Duzen said, it has peer review, self review, computer review, and teacher review. All of these review's produces an exceptional personal essay for colleges to see.
